I am planning on wearing a pair of striped socks with my dress. I love to look at pictures of real weddings and I especially love the ones where the bride lifts up her dress to show off her shoes. I will take a few of those photos at our wedding. I will wear a pair of matching socks though, not mismatched like in this picture.Wednesday, October 21, 2009

6 days until we move
Tomorrow I have to reserve the moving truck for Sunday. I have to go grocery shopping too for stuff for the new house. I have to get a money order for the cable installation on next Tuesday. I was thrilled that I got an appointment so close to when we are moving in though. I also have to go to the post office and get a new box and fill out one of those moving forms. We have to meet with our realtor this week too to just go over everything quickly.
I loaded up the back of my Honda Element and dropped the boxes over at the new house today. I'm going to try and make a few trips with some of the smaller items this week before the BIG move.
I am so anxious to get this all over with but I'm kind of dreading it too.

Wedding cake alternatives
One option for an alternative to the wedding cake is the dessert buffet or a table filled with different varieties of cakes or pies. This option would be a great way to incorporate a few favorite family recipes into the reception. It also gives you and your guests a lot of variety and choices. If you are having a lot of guests this could get pretty expensive though.
I came across this photo of a brownie wedding cake online and I noted the source on a post it note but now unfortunately it's nowhere to be found. I think that this would be pretty easy to do. This could be a good option for a bride on a budget. I would add some Kahlua-spiked whipped cream between the layers. Mmm!
I found this cake at: http://www.bubblybride.com/blog/2009/02/rice-krispies-not-your-typical-wedding-cake/. I think that this cake would also be quite easy to DIY especially since rice krispie treats are kind of mold- able. I would love to see a cake like this done with the chocolate rice krispies.

Cupcakes have become so popular as an alternative to the traditional wedding cake recently. They are delicious and adorable. Need I say more?

We're moving
It's not really wedding planning-related but we're moving. We just signed the lease this week. We will technically be fully moved in on Nov. 1st but we're going to start moving stuff in the week before. I hate to be rushed when I'm moving so I always try to get a few extra days to do a bit of unpacking and sorting before the space is a sea of boxes! We are planning on having our wedding at our home but now I'm worried about that plan. We signed a one year lease so we will be at the new house until Nov. 1, 2010. We are going to be getting married sometime in October 2010. The house is very cute but it's also very small. I might start calling it cozy to make myself feel better. I think that it would be pretty cramped with 20 to 30 people there. We could have the ceremony and reception outside I guess, but that's a gamble with the weather then. We could use the front porch but it's quite close to the road/traffic. Ideally, I wanted the ceremony to be held in our living room but I'm not sure how it will all play out now. I guess I'll just have to wait until we are actually in the house and have our furniture arranged and see how it looks. My mom always says that a room looks smaller when it's empty. Here's to hoping that she's right!!

Envelope seals and more

A girl at work brought me in two sheets of envelope seals that she had left over from her wedding two years ago. She just found them in her desk at home and thought that I might be able to use them. So now I have my envelope seals!! They are the gold monogram ones. And yes, both of our married last names start with the same letter, if you were wondering.
She invited me to stop by her house tonight after work to see if I would want any of the other things that she has left over from her wedding. I told her that I would pay her for anything that I do want but she said no way. She just wants to get it out of her house soon. She said that she's just tired of looking at it. I am going to take her out to lunch tomorrow as a thank you though.
UPDATE: I stopped by her house tonight and she gave me quite a bit of stuff: about 25 assorted vases, some petals, wood letters, 2 baskets, escort cards, some tealight candles, mini floating candles, votive candles, green ribbons, ivory tulle, glass beads, bubbles, 4 black food platters, glass votive cups, leaf shaped confetti, gratuity cards and a set of pillar candles. Wow, now that I've listed it all I see that it's a lot of stuff!! I don't know what I'm going to do with it all yet but I'll figure it out.
